Rite Aid: Paid $4.49 Each for Two Folgers & Received $8 +Up!

Today, I went to my local Rite Aid to take advantage of the Folgers +Up deal where you can earn a $2 +Up for every Folgers coffee you buy (limit of 2). I had also read about an unadvertised deal where some regions were receiving a $3 +Up for buying $15 worth of Folgers products. So in all, you’d receive something like $7 worth of +Up from Rite Aid. To me, it seemed like a good deal especially since Folgers coffee is expensive to begin with. I try to pay no more than $5.99-$6.99 on Folgers with coupon and a sale if I can help it. I am actually low on coffee, so it seemed like a great time to stock up anyways. Luckily, my step-dad had the $1/2 Folgers coupon that was available in the paper a few weeks ago.

Here’s the deal:

Folger’s Coffee 22.6-33.9 oz. – $8.99
Use (1) $1/2 coupon from the (RP 9/9/12)
Final Cost = $4.99 each wyb 2, and receive $7 +Up!

Well lucky me, I realize when I get home that our area is generating a $4 +Up instead of the $3 that I read about, and it doesn’t actually have anything to do with Folgers at all! So instead, I really paid like $4.49 for two Folgers coffee, and now have $8 in +Up I can use next week. My total came to $16.98 after the $1 off coupon was applied.  Even without the coupon, the coffee still would have came to $4.99 each. I’m really excited because I’ve already seen a sneak peak at some of next weeks deals, so I know I am going to be taking home some freebies!

What Two Months Of Couponing & Finding Deals Looks Like

I’ve officially hit my two month mark since I’ve started to coupon and find the best money saving deals so I can start saving money while I’m on unemployment. Two months ago, this basement was just a spare room full of random stuff that collected dust. After my boyfriend cleaned out the room, he bought the shelves and put them together so I could start my couponing adventure. As you can see, the shelves and the room is starting to get very full! Like all the soft soap? Well.. I paid NOTHING for it!

The majority of the stuff you see here is a mix between freebies, cheap deals and some awesome Amazon deals I was able to snag. My first really good deal was on toilet paper and I spent $23.73 for 3 – 20/Pack’s on Charmin toilet paper. Since then, I’ve learned how to lessen my out of pocket expenses by as much as 91% and up when I go shopping which requires a lot of advanced planning. A few weeks ago, I bought 6 packs of Charmin Toilet Paper for $0.18 while I was taking advantage of the Cover Girl moneymaker at CVS. I was lucky enough to have my first newspapers while starting out couponing have the high value $8/2 Cover Girl face products coupons, and I thought it was valuable enough to purchase more on Ebay. Good thing I did, because I was able to recycle over $150 worth of gift cards (on my CVS card, my BF’s and another) CVS using those coupons and paying NOTHING for Cover Girl makeup. On top of that, many of my friends and family now have some free high quality makeup and won’t need any for a long time. I’ve even been able to pay $0.10 for 5 boxes of Puffs tissues, and we’re just on our last box now!

The key to couponing is pairing a manufactuers coupon, with a store coupon and then waiting for a good sale. If I would have went and bought Listerine with just my $1/1 manufacturer’s coupon, I would have only paid a $1 off the original price. But since I waited and was able to pair it with a $1/1 Target coupon and a clearance sale, I only ended up paying $1.24 per bottle, PLUS they also had more coupons on them AND now we have some FREE travel size Listerine for when we go on vacation. And most of the stuff you see on the left – was FREE!

You can do this. Look where we’re at now compared to only two months ago. If I would have paid for everything out of pocket at it’s regular price, I wouldn’t even have half of this stuff stocked up. We now have enough toilet paper to last us over a year, plus enough Listerine to last us as long as two years and none of those products go bad. On top of it, since I took advantage of purchasing some  $4/1 Purina One Beyond coupons on ebay, we were able to pair them with a sale and we saved over $150 on dog food that will now last us 3 months for our four dogs. All I paid was less than $4 on ebay to save $150+ worth of dog food and it was worth it!

My Shopping Trip: $251.62 Worth of Items For Only $74.17 (71% Savings!!)

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I decided to go run out to Target to take advantage of the Norelco Sensotouch deal that would end yesterday, and I wanted to grab us some Curel lotion while we were there since they would ultimately come out to be FREE with their sale and $5 gift card deal. If you are a new reader to my blog, I live about a half hour away from a Target store. I had posted yesterday about the Norelco Sensotouch being on sale for $89.99, plus the $30 mail in rebate AND I’d be receiving a $10 Target gift card for spending $50 that was about to expire. So, a $99.99 razor my boyfriend has been eying for a few weeks would only cost us $49.99! I had only discovered the deal yesterday, or else we would have bought it the day before while we had been in town. And since we’d already be at Target, we wanted to grab some of the Purina One Beyond that was discounted to $6.16 a bag. With my $4/1 Purina One Beyond coupons, we’d only be paying $2.16 + tax on 3.5lbs of dog food. Things seemed to work out perfectly, since I wanted to also run to CVS and see if they have switched over to tomorrow’s deals. Lucky for me, they had the sale prices on!

91% Savings on Target Shopping Trip!

Yesterday, I took a drive to Batavia to go shopping at Target. I’ve been holding onto a few coupons and waiting for some good sales before I used them. After having taken a trip earlier in the week to Target to check out some of the unadvertised sales (like the DiGiornio pizza’s reduced to $2/10), I thought it would be a good time to use up some of my coupons there.

I took about 3 hours in the morning to plan my trip, and looked up any last minute deals or scenarios I may have missed that night. My shopping list consisted of:

Listerine Total Care (bonus pack) $4.24 (clearance)
(4) $1/1 Target printable coupon
(4) $2/1 Total Care printable coupon
= $1.24 each

Stouffer’s Mac N Cheese (Family Size) $5.45 (discount price)
(2) $1.50/1 Target printable coupon
(4) $0.75 Stouffer’s printable coupon
= $3.95 each

Gold Peak Unsweetened Tea $1.49
(4) $1.00/1 printable coupon
= $0.49 each

DiGiornio Pizza, Pepperoni $5/10 (discount price)
(4) $2/1 printable coupon
= $3 each

Breyer’s Ice Cream Blasts $3.49
(2) $1/2 printable coupon
(4) $0.75 Target printable coupon
= $2.24 each

Purina One Beyond 3.5lbs dog food $6.99 (discount price)
(1) $4/1 coupon (SS 10/9/11)
(1) $1/1 Target printable coupon
= $1.99

Milk Bone, $2.54
(1) $1.50/2 Target printable coupon
(1) $1.50/2 coupon (SS 10/9/11)
= $1.04 each

All in all I paid $40.15 after taxes with a total savings of $44.24! I’ve been trying to work on saving around 90% of my grocery/shopping bill and I seem to be hitting it now that I’m getting used to couponing. It definetally takes a lot of work to plan a shopping trip, collect coupons, and find the best deals. My goal is to keep aiming for 90% in savings when I go shopping.
